GEM LDP CITIZEN CIRCLES

THE GEM LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM [GEM LDP]
The goal of the GEM LDP is to identify, educate and support those formerly incarcerated who want to live healthy, productive, law-abiding lives. This program goes further than just the life-changing benefits to be attained by persons formerly incarcerated. It also seeks to make a direct and immediate impact upon the quality of life within the community by reducing crime and improving the economy.

The GEM LDP may begin 15 to 18 months prior to the inmate's release, and then continue for up to 3 years after, to offer:

  1. Case Management

  2. Mentoring [for the inmates and their children]

  3. Cognitive-behavioral Group Intervention

  4. Information and Referral to faith-based and community service providers throughout the state

The most unique aspect of this program is its strategy to build upon the intrinsic leadership skills of each inmate accepted into the program; by empowering them to tailor the program to meet their immediate needs while incarcerated and, upon release, connecting them with the most appropriate community-based opportunities for the continued expression and development of their individual strengths and abilities.
